Barbara Anthony-Twarog

Professor of Physics and Astronomy

Professor Anthony-Twarog's research projects over the past three decades have employed intermediate-band photometry and high-dispersion spectroscopy to probe the detailed structure of stars, using telescopes on the ground and in space. Often, the larger goal is to understand the history and evolution of the larger environment in which stars and clusters are found -- the Milky Way Galaxy. Our stellar astronomy group at KU has pioneered intermediate-band CCD photometry, has developed a successful new photometric metallicity index, and has uncovered a unique view of the spatial pattern of chemical composition in the disk of the Milky Way.
