Sorcha Hyland began her formal Yoga practice in Ireland in 1994 with Marlene French Mullen, a student of Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois. Sorcha immigrated to Lawrence, Kansas in 2002. She has practiced yoga for over 10 years and currently teaches a Beginner's level class at Be Moved Studios, downtown Lawrence. Sorcha earned a Master's degree in Film Theory at the National University of Ireland. Prior to moving to the United States, Sorcha worked in the Irish and British film industries, and freelanced as an art and film reviewer. She is currently employed as a Program Assistant at the Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS); and as a part-time position as Youth and Family Outreach Coordinator at the Spencer Museum of Art. Sorcha facilitates private and one-off beginner yoga classes for all ages, including "chair yoga" for students with disabilities. Sorcha is also a freelance educator and will teach a course on 19th-20th century Irish culture for KU's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute this fall, 2011.
